Jumbled Dystopia
You won't hear a silent sea submerged under these depths. There are more than shipwrecks; get ready to find richly suboceanic experimentations. If you've ever played 2007's Bioshock or its sequel from 2010, it's almost a guarantee that you're able to conjure up readily accessible, haunted recall. Still considered one of the greatest video games ever, the first-person nightmare is about a thalassic utopia gone terribly wrong. Rapture's art deco architectural design may have been your initial allure. Perhaps the promise of non-censorship or freedom to live ones' life. It may have been the old-time soundtrack allure of django reinhardt's improvised gypsy jazz or the unabridged tension that surrounds every part of the city. Either way, Dex & Jumbled have brought it all back to life in album format with an alternate storyline through sound, lyric and presence.
In this account finely wrought with skits complimenting the reimagined story, we hear a power struggle amongst Andrew Ryan, Bridgette Tenenbaum, Augustus Sinclair, Atlas/ Fontaine and Sofia Lamb. Dex plays numerous characters in the story such as Augustus Sinclair, Sander Cohen but most notably and consistently; a re-animated film photographer who died tragically in the surface world but awoke again in Rapture. As past memories flood back in randomly, he has to reorient himself and find out how to subsist (ahem* escape_) this failed oasis. Jumbled is just who you'd expect, a famed producer who fights for his place atop Raptures' brightest composers and beat makers. Fresh off his "Greatest Show On Earth" collaborative album, he battles his only rivalled producer, Madlib.
The guests that appear on the album are all vital and inseparable from the developing narrative. First, we have Nak. who plays a Splicer (who at one point worked with Suchong and Tenenbaum pre civil war). Under the side effects of ADAM, he prepares Cohen's threads/ accoutrements for the big theatrical premiere! Second, we have "Mr. Welcome to the City" Rey who plays a Rapture warlord sharing insightfully rare dividends every survivalist wishes they knew. Next we have an acclimated new love interest and sight to behold, the harpsiken ClariSh; who works with the lazarus vector bringing dead plants back to life sustaining Rapture’s atmosphere. Except, she may not be entirely who she proclaims.
This is followed by Cohens' unsuspecting savior (the bum. — master of gnomic writing) who graces the stage when a years-in-the-making grand opening doesn't go to plan. Finally and right on time, we have ALYX, an observing poet among the few whom have fled and found a way to rise to the surface. He speaks of the first community encountered and the strikingly close echoes of our alarming, modern realities. They say salvation is in the art of listening but the floating truth is that things aren’t always as they appear.
